Twin-Screw Granulator for the pharmaceutical industry
Twin-Screw Granulator - BCG
Twin-screw pelletising has been an established method for continuous wet pelletising since the early 2000s. Twin screw pelletising is a fully continuous process by design and can be seen as a starting point for companies to begin continuous production of pharmaceuticals.
More about the highlights
The Twin-Screw Granulator BCG can be operated alone or fully integrated into the continuous production line QbCon® from L.B. Bohle.
The powder to be granulated is fed onto two so-called screws, which rotate in the same direction in a cylinder, thereby transporting the material through the process zone and kneading and mixing it at the same time. The flexible design of the screws enables the production of granulates with different porosities that meet all the requirements of downstream drying and tableting.
Twin-Screw Granulator BCG -
The advantages
-
Short dwell times of the material in the process (< 1 min - a few seconds)
-
Fast and efficient reactions to process and quality deviations
-
Reduction of the space required for the machines and the associated GMP areas
-
This eliminates the need to increase the scale of machines that would otherwise be required
-
Mixing and granulation in one step and in the shortest possible time
-
Introduction of instruments for 100% in-line quality control
-
No more need to discard entire batches - low-quality product can be selectively rejected
-
Realisation of experimental test plans in the shortest possible time
What is twin-screw pelletising and what role does it play in tablet production?
Twin-screw granulation is a fully continuous wet granulation process in which powder is mixed, kneaded and granulated simultaneously using two rotating screws. It is ideal as an introduction to continuous pharmaceutical production.
What are the advantages of the Twin-Screw Granulator BCG from L.B. Bohle?
The BCG enables extremely short dwell times (less than 1 minute), combines mixing and granulation in a single step and requires less GMP space than other machines thanks to its compact design. This saves space and costs while maintaining high efficiency.
How is product quality ensured?
By using PAT technologies such as NIR or Raman Spectroscopy and particle size analysis, quality can be monitored in real time. Inferior products are specifically rejected so that entire batches do not have to be discarded.
Can the BCG only be used individually or can it also be integrated?
The Twin-Screw Granulator can be operated as a stand-alone unit or fully integrated into the QbCon® continuous production line.
