Film coater for the pharmaceutical industry
Film Coater - BFC
Film coaters enable the precise coating of tablets and capsules to ensure their stability, bioavailability and protection against external influences.
More about the highlights
L.B. Bohle is a leader in the development and production of film coating systemsfor the pharmaceutical industry. The Bohle Film Coater BFC is the high-end version of the L.B. Bohle coaters and is characterised by high efficiency, optimum performance and minimal suspension losses.
The L.B. Bohle film coating technology is based on three essential and unique features: the drum geometry, the double spirals and the air flow.
Tablets are most frequently coated in order to modify the release of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) , to protect the API from light or moisture or to mask a bitter taste in the tablet formulation.
The tolerability of the dosage form also plays a role, i.e. that coated tablets are easier to swallow or can be better distinguished from one another with the help of different colours. The processing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients ( API) in the tablet coating is becoming increasingly important.

L.B. Bohle is a leader in tablet coating technology and offers state-of-the-art systems such as the Bohle Film Coater (BFC) and the Bohle Tablet Coater (BTC).
These Tablet Coaters ensure excellent coating results, reduced process times of up to 35% and minimised spray loss. With leading technology and easy cleaning, they significantly optimise production processes in the pharmaceutical industry.
What is pharmaceutical film coating / Tablet Coating?
Pharmaceutical film coating, i.e. the coating of particles, is an important process in pharmaceutical tablet production. All Tablet Coating processes are based on three steps:
- Spraying
- Mixing
- Drying
Tablets are most frequently coated in order to modify the release of the active ingredient, to protectthe active ingredient from light or moisture orto mask a bitter taste in the tablet formulation. The tolerability of the dosage form also plays a role, i.e. that coated tablets are easier to swallow or can be better distinguished from one another with the help ofdifferent colours. What makes coating with the Film Coater - BFC special? What advantages does it offer?
The Bohle Film Coater BFC represents the top version of L.B. Bohle's Tablet Coaters and impresses with its exceptional efficiency, outstanding performance and minimal suspension losses.
L.B. Bohle's film coating technology is based on three unique and decisive features:
- the special drum geometry
- the double spirals
- the innovative air guidance
Is the Film Coater - BFC available in different versions or variants?
The BFC series from L.B. Bohle includes the following variants of the film coater to ensure precise and efficient coating.
- BFC 100: For batch sizes from 50 to 160 litres with 5 nozzles.
- BFC 200: Suitable for volumes from 100 to 300 litres, equipped with 6 nozzles.
- BFC 400: Enables processing of 200 to 650 litres and has 8 nozzles.
- BFC 600: For batches from 400 to 980 litres, with 10 nozzles.
Each model of the BFC Tablet Coater is characterised by its high flexibility and uniformity of Tablet Coating.
What criteria should I consider when comparing similar film coaters?
When selecting a new film coater, several criteria should be considered to ensure that the unit meets the specific requirements of the production process:
Coating uniformity:
High filming uniformity is essential, especially for functional Tablet Coatings.
Process design:
L.B. Bohle offers the market's best solution in terms of:
- Mixing
- Spraying
- Drying
Cleaning and operation:
User-friendliness and fully automatic cleaning are basic requirements for effective production processes.
Flexibility:
Variable filling levels offer maximum flexibility!
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
Heat recovery saves energy and an energy monitoring system provides optimum transparency regarding energy consumption.
