Dry Granulators for the pharmaceutical industry
Dry Granulator - BRC
Compared to conventional wet granulation processes, no energy-intensive drying processes are required here; this saves high investments in equipment and production rooms and leads to lower costs per batch.
More about the highlights
Continuous Dry Granulation has been an established process in the pharmaceutical industry for decades and is not only used for moisture- or temperature-sensitive products. With its Dry Granulators, L.B. Bohle combines high product capacity with minimal material loss.
In contrast to competitor systems, the force generation is purely electromechanical and thus guarantees constant flake properties.
The BRC Dry Granulator regulates the compacting force and flake thickness very innovatively and produces uniform compaction of the material. The BRC 100 Dry Granulator realises aproduction range of <1 - 400 kg/h.
The sophisticated system design facilitates handling and shortens the assembly procedure.
Thehygienic designand the washing nozzles integrated as standard guarantee an effective WIP process.
Dry pelletising is often the process of choice for large-volume or moisture-sensitive products.
The BRC pelletisers from L.B. Bohle are suitable for continuous production and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) can be integrated. In addition, the pelletisers in the BRC series can be flexibly integrated into a wide range of production scenarios
The flakes are crushed into granulate with the desired particle size distribution using the conical Bohle Turbo Sieve BTS. Alternatively , an oscillating screen (rotary screen BRS) can also be used.
Changeover takes place within minutes. This means that the system can be flexibly adapted to process and flake requirements. The screening process is realised very gently thanks to the screen inserts, even with high material throughputs.

Variants of the dry granulator
L.B. Bohle is a leader in Dry Granulation and offers state-of-the-art systems such as the BRC 25 and BRC 100 Dry Granulators, which ensure excellent compaction results, shorten process times and eliminate the need for recirculation. With leading technology and easy cleaning, they significantly optimise production processes in the pharmaceutical industry.
What is Dry Granulation?
Continuous Dry Granulation or roller compaction has been an established method in the pharmaceutical industry for decades. It is not only used for moisture- and temperature-sensitive products. It offers manufacturers several advantages, for example in terms of overall costs, energy consumption and/or environmental impact. In addition, they can use the same equipment for large-scale production from development to commercial cGMP production.
What makes Dry Granulation with the Dry Granulator - BRC special? What advantages does it offer?
In dry granulation, a mixture of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and the intragranular excipients is passed between two counter-rotating rollers to produce flakes.
The aim of this granulation is to produce coarser agglomerates from fine, non-compactable powders, which can then be pressed into tablets.
In contrast to Wet Granulation, the agglomerates in Dry Granulation are produced solely by mechanical pressure. Dry granulators differ in the arrangement of the rollers: there are systems with horizontal, vertical and inclined rollers. Horizontal rollers have the advantage that the screws are better ventilated and the flakes are discharged over a short distance.
Is the BRC Dry Granulator available in different versions or variants?
The BRC series from L.B. Bohle comprises two variants of the dry pelletiser, which differ in their capacity to produce high-quality pellets. The BRC 25 Dry Granulator realises a capacity of ≤ 1 - 100 kilograms per hour. The BRC 100, on the other hand, produces ≤ 1 - 400 kilograms per hour, depending on the product. Both Dry Granulators can be used as stand-alone machines or fully integrated.
What criteria should I consider when comparing similar Dry Granulators?
When selecting a new dry pelletiser, several criteria should be considered to ensure that the equipment meets the specific requirements of the production process:
Batch size:
The Dry Granulator must meet the required volume capacity for the production units.
Drive:
In contrast to conventional Dry Granulators, L.B. Bohle relies on an electro-mechanical drive. This is a sustainable and resource-saving approach - no hydraulics are required.
No recirculation:
Due to the low proportion of fines in the granulated material, no recirculation is necessary.
Flexibility in screen use:
The use of a conical sieve BTS or the oscillating sieve BRS offers maximum process flexibility. Changing to the other screen takes just a few minutes.
Compact design and uncomplicated operation:
The BRC Dry Granulator is flexible plug & play machine. The compact design ensures easy integration into existing processes. The rollers are positioned without cost-intensive handling aids. The low maximum height of the system means that no ladder or step is required.
