L.B. Bohle sets milestones with continuous granulation and drying

QbCon® WG, a continuous wet granulator and dryer, enables a Throughput of 25 kg/h per hour and is designed for continuous production. This means that the system can produce virtually without interruption and generate a high Throughput.

The time had come in mid-October: after an eleven-month project period, a German generics manufacturer successfully passed the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of the sup>QbCon<® WG - a continuous wet granulator and dryer.
"The new system enables a throughput of 25 kg/h per hour and is designed for continuous production," reports Tim Remmert, Managing Director Sales at L.B. Bohle Maschinen und Verfahren GmbH. "This means that the system can produce virtually without interruption and generate a high Throughput," continues Remmert.

Trend towards Continuous Manufacturing

The proportion of continuously operating systems in pharmaceutical production is currently still low. At present, production is mainly carried out in classic batch or batch production. In recent years, however, the demand for continuous systems has increased immensely.
"With our various solutions for dry and Wet Granulation as well as drying and Tablet Coating, we are at the forefront of the market," says Thorsten Wesselmann (Managing Director Technology), emphasising the exceptional position of the Ennigerloh-based technology company. "In addition to the individual components, we offer cutting-edge technology with our solutions for the production of coated tablets using dry or Wet Granulation or direct compression," Wesselmann continues.

QbCon® WG - truly continuous process

The new system enables a Throughput of 25 kg/h per hour and is designed for continuous production "We have successfully patented the dryer," Remmert proudly states. This innovation puts us far ahead of our competitors, as we are the only supplier able to realise a truly continuous process. Our competitors can only produce in sub-batches and often have problems with blocked (clogged) filters," Remmert continues.
The development and production of this completely new system was also a challenge for L.B. Bohle: "Not only the task, but also the time frame for design and completion was a challenge for the Bohle team. "Once again, we proved that we can solve complex challenges with expertise and an outstanding team performance," says Thorsten Wesselmann, emphasising the combination of knowledge and cooperation. "In discussions, our customer always emphasised that our project team and the associated expertise was an important factor in awarding the contract."
Following dismantling, the continuous production plant will soon be installed at its new production site. The production of painkillers is scheduled to start on QbCon® WG in the 1st quarter of 2021.
