Turbo sieve BTS with RFID equipment

Permanent control in the sieving process

The comminution of pharmaceutical solids is a crucial process step in tablet production and has a significant influence on the quality of the final product. The required particle size distribution is related to the desired release characteristics. It is therefore crucial for product quality that the right machine setup is selected for the size reduction process. This means that the right screen insert must be selected and installed in a Conical Sieve.
The Bohle Turbo Sieving BTS 200 has been meeting the highest Process Safety requirements for years thanks to its modern control system with recipe and user management. Only authorised operators can start the screening process. However, the responsibility for installing the appropriate sieve insert still lies solely with the operator.

Sieve insert determines product result

"The sieve insert has a decisive influence on the product result and is therefore categorised as process-critical. It must therefore be carefully selected," says Managing Director Sales Tim Remmert, emphasising the priority of the work process. "In order to achieve a much higher level of Process Safety and largely avoid errors, the BTS 200 can now be equipped with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology," explains Remmert. The screen inserts are equipped with inconspicuous transponders (data carriers) that uniquely identify the screen insert.

A stored sieving process can therefore only be started with the sieve insert stored in the recipe.
The antenna for reading out the data is plugged into the feed hopper; this also ensures easy cleaning of the BTS.

Increased Process Monitoring and Safety
The use of RFID technology has further advantages for users: By saving the operating times, conclusions can easily be drawn about possible wear and tear in the event of extended process times. The integration of RFID technology into the BTS control system thus increases Process Safety and documents the screen insert used in the batch log.

The following data, among others, is stored on the transponder of the Sieving:

  • Serial number
  • Screen design (round perforated screen, rasp screen, square perforated screen)
  • Size of the perforation
  • Article number
  • Date of manufacture, first and last use
    Operating times
